Curect Neuropsychology of New Jersey, L.L.C offers an externship/internship program over a 12-month training period that is most appropriate for advanced level masters and/or doctoral students in clinical, counseling, school, or combined graduate psychology programs. Our program places an emphasis on practical training within a supportive environment to facilitate growth of externs/interns as clinicians. Eligible applicants must have prior experience with counseling and/or testing using empirically-supported treatments.
Throughout the training year, externs/interns conduct initial intake and diagnostic assessments using structured and semi-structured clinical interview methods, and provide individual outpatient psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and/or children, as well as have opportunities to conduct psychological/neuropsychological evaluations. Additional opportunities may include assisting with program development and co-leading social skills groups, co-leading parenting support groups, outreach efforts (e.g., organizing or delivering community lectures, virtual development, etc.).
Externs/interns receive extensive support for the above activities including: One hour of individual supervision with a licensed clinical psychologist and/or neuropsychologist as well as ad hoc consultation as needed with members of our supervisory and/or clinical administrative staff. Additionally, depending on scheduling and availability, externs/interns will participate in our case conference and team meetings. Throughout the training year, there is a focus on helping externs/interns to build competency in evidence-based assessment and intervention (i.e., CBT/DBT). More broadly, externs develop key skills in clinical consultation, case presentation, professional collaboration, and in utilizing clinical data to inform case conceptualization, treatment planning, and intervention.
Externs/interns who successfully complete our program are welcome to apply for our doctoral fellowship program the subsequent year.
Externship/internship placement will not impact opportunities for further training (postdoctoral fellowship) at our site.
